Captured Moments 2

Imbued Vagary

Ideal for electronic purists, the music drifts through experimental soundscapes, dark synthpop flavors, sci-fi beats, and minimal melodies while staying clear of any organic sound.

Imbued Vagary - "to fill with odd things"

Imbued Vagary was initially the repository for all those pieces that Any Questions? (our main project) had created and recorded but did not seem to find their way into our actual album releases. After a decade of work on Any Questions? material, we were ready to look back at the earlier, non - Any Questions?, world of musical mayhem and sonic landscapes that we had created. Even though the earlier works were usually live improvs and less produced, they captured moments we felt were important and that we wanted to share. electronique, released in October 2001 was the realization of this aesthetic.

Fast forward to 02/20/10, Floating Fish Studios held its first in a series of Synth Jam Sessions. This series, which continues to this day, provides a forum for our fellow musical collaborators to create improvisational electronic music within the freedom of our state-of-the-art recording studios. The musical backgrounds of the ensembles gathered for each session influence the eclectic nature of the sonic experimentations produced. So, the Imbued Vagary aesthetic lives on and continues in these recordings we share with you.

Release Notes: In categorizing ones own projects, a template of sorts begins to emerge. One of those is this series. Imbued Vagary is proud to present to you a collection of musicians as well as a collection of “captured moments”. In this case, the second in a series. Just as the name implies, these are moments of raw electronic improvisation, complete with all the “imperfections” one would expect from such an endeavor. Concepts thought up and run with on the spur of the moment. Captured moments of time in an overall fabric of synthesized space.

Release Notes: The first Live release in this series was the result of live performances that showcased the symbiotic relationship of men and machines in concert. A mix of melodically inspired themes but with the non-traditional bent that makes all Imbued Vagary performances special. This second Live release features three in-studio performances and one outdoor concert performance that highlights the Imbued Vagary Collective across multiple sonic environments.

Release Notes: Imbued Vagary is no stranger to brutal electronics. This second installment of extreme music in the Noise series showcases the harsher side of our Floating Fish Studios Synth Jam live improv sessions and live concert performances. Synthesis, sampling, and special effects meld together to form these harsh and noisy sonic experiments.

As we warned on the first Noise release, “Hold on… This ride gets bumpy!”

Release Notes: Imbued Vagary continues to assimilate new members into its fold and as it does so, it expands the Collective’s musical (and nonmusical) acumen. The sonic experiments on Wheels of Steel highlights such an expansion and showcases the turntablism of Paul Doppelganga. Combined with the electronic soundscapes that Imbued Vagary are known for, an exciting and unique form of electronic music emerges.

Release Notes: Presented here as the third release in our Noise series are a set of performance rehearsals, we had for the 05/21/16 Experimental Music/Noise show in Pittsburgh, PA. The planned exercise was to single out a set of hardware synthesizers for use in this specific performance environment. Though some may think of something related to a rehearsal and/or named “noise” should be relegated to the cutting room floor, Imbued Vagary takes our rehearsals and “noise” very seriously. Rehearsing with lights, lasers, and fog, we want to ensure our own peak awareness of the experience that we plan to share with our audience. Of course, we record all of these moments. The recordings for this release are taken from camcorder mono audio tracks so the quality is not as good as what would be expected from an Imbued Vagary release, but you do get to hear the fog machine belching out smoke during the recording. That should make up for the “lesser” quality recording. Shouldn’t it?

Release Notes: The material on this release was created by a subset of the Imbued Vagary Collective whom included Mary Mary, mC2p4, Thee Sub One Genius, and Ttam Troll on 06.08.19 at Floating Fish Studios II. These spontaneous improvisations were recorded in the sequence in which they are presented here without any overdubbing or manipulation. The final track, Disease, is a prescient musical warning of the ensuing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) that now ravages the world. Will humankind fade into silence as this track does or will our story continue?

Release Notes: It has been stated that any art that is perfect is boring in and of itself. True art is a capture of a moment in time out of many moments of boredom and inactivity. To that effect, we present a collection of captured moments for your consideration. Is it perfect? No, but it captures the essence and passion of the moment and that is what this release is all about. Capturing moments of electronic impulses embedded in plastic! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it!

Release Notes: This release is a collection of our best live performances at the SHAPE Solstice Arts Festival and SHAPE Gallery. The first 7 tracks are from our 2013 performance at the 8th Annual SHAPE Solstice Arts Festival. This was our second foray to the festival and we delivered an electrically charged show for the festival attendees. The last 3 tracks of this release are taken from our 2012 SHAPE Gallery performance for the opening reception of DEEP - 10th Annual Abstract Exhibit. We played to a crowded house of artists and patrons that had come to see a spectacular exhibit and they were not disappointed.

The Imbued Vagary Collective would like to thank all the officers (past and present) of SHAPE (Shippensburg Arts Programming & Education) for their ongoing commitment to supporting the arts in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania.
